Company Profile

Cypark Resources Berhad — Malaysia's Renewable Energy Pioneer

Cypark Resources Berhad (Bursa: 5184) is no ordinary energy company. It is Malaysia's most experienced and diversified renewable energy (RE) player — a company that has built, owned, and operated over 400 MWp of solar assets nationwide since listing on Bursa Malaysia in 2009.

What sets Cypark apart from peers: it doesn't just build solar farms for others (like Solarvest or Samaiden) — it also owns and operates these assets long-term, generating recurring income through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Tenaga Nasional Bhd.

Core Business Segments

  • Renewable Energy (RE) — ~60% of revenue: Electricity sales from solar assets (LSS3 Terengganu 172MWp, LSS4 Kelantan 60MW DTU floating solar — fully operational Jan 2026)
  • Waste-to-Energy (WtE) — ~20% of revenue: SMART Plant in Negeri Sembilan processes 1,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day, generating 15MW of continuous electricity. 25-year concession until 2041. Tipping fee revised upward to ~RM96/tonne (from RM33/tonne)
  • EPCC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction & Commissioning) — Key Earnings Driver: Cypark builds solar plants for corporate clients. RM4.2 billion tender book. This segment will determine whether the company turns profitable in FY2026-FY2027
  • Environmental Engineering: Environmental services, landfill management, and green infrastructure

Financial Analysis

Financial Performance - Cypark Resources (1QFY2027 Update)

The first quarter of FY2027 (ended 31 July 2026) marks a significant inflection point - revenue for this single quarter (RM180.05 million) exceeded Cypark's ENTIRE FY2026 full-year revenue (~RM179.2 million). This was driven primarily by project progress in the Sustainable Engineering & Infrastructure (SE&I) segment.

1QFY2027 Segment Breakdown

SegmentRevenue (RM million)YoY ChangeDriver
Sustainable Engineering & Infrastructure (SE&I)132.48New growth engineProgress on ongoing projects; segment EBITDA RM21.9 million (~16.5% EBITDA margin)
Renewable Energy (RE)29.85+4.9%Higher generation from the LSS3 Merchang solar plant, Terengganu, and feed-in-tariff approval-holder assets
Circular Waste / Waste-to-Energy (WtE)17.72+36.2%Higher plant operations, increased waste volumes, full-quarter effect of revised tipping fees

Earnings Quality

Important for investors: this RM5.7 million profit is NOT a one-off gain such as an asset disposal or a write-back. It is driven by real operational improvement - gross margin flipped from a RM0.3 million gross loss (1QFY2026) to a RM29.2 million gross profit (1QFY2027), a ~16.2% gross margin. This is an operating turnaround, not financial 'window dressing'.

Capital Structure

Balance sheet health nonetheless remains the key overhang - net gearing is estimated to remain elevated at ~3.0x, with cash thin relative to total debt (~RM31.2 million cash at FY2026 year-end). 4QFY2026 finance costs alone reached RM15.59 million (+46.4% YoY), reflecting a heavy project-financing burden. Depreciation and amortisation also rose to RM25.1 million from RM22.05 million - a large non-cash cost from the sizeable RE/WtE plant asset base. Pending the full 1QFY2027 report, it is reasonable to assume gearing and finance costs remain around FY2026 levels for now.

Dividends

Dividends - Cypark Resources

No dividend was declared for 1QFY2027, continuing a several-year no-dividend record. This is expected by most observers - even though the company returned to profit this quarter, management is far more likely to direct cash toward SE&I working capital and debt reduction than toward a payout.
