Company Profile

Who is PETRONAS Gas Bhd (6033)?

PETRONAS Gas Berhad (PGB) is the backbone of Malaysia's gas infrastructure — the company responsible for processing, transporting, and regasifying natural gas across Peninsular Malaysia. It is a majority-owned subsidiary of Malaysia's national oil company PETRONAS (~60% shareholding) and has been listed on Bursa Malaysia since 1995.

Unlike typical oil and gas companies exposed to commodity price swings, PGB operates on a fee-based model — it earns fixed processing and transportation fees from PETRONAS under long-term contracts, regardless of prevailing gas market prices. This model makes PGB's earnings far more stable and predictable than upstream operators.

Core Business Segments

  • Gas Processing: Processes raw offshore natural gas into commercial products (methane, LPG, condensate) at its plants in Kertih and Terengganu. Operates under multi-year Gas Processing Agreements with PETRONAS.
  • Gas Transportation: Manages the ~2,500km Peninsular Gas Utilisation (PGU) pipeline network delivering gas to industrial customers across Malaysia and Singapore.
  • Regasification (LNG Terminals): Converts imported LNG back to gas for pipeline distribution. PGB operates two terminals: RGTSU (Sungai Udang, Melaka) and RGTP (Pengerang, Johor). A third terminal (Lumut, Perak) is in planning.
  • Utilities: Provides centralised utilities (steam, nitrogen, compressed air) to industrial facilities in PETRONAS' industrial estates.

Corporate Governance

As a government-linked company (GLC), PGB adheres to stringent corporate governance standards under Bursa Malaysia and PETRONAS oversight. The Board of Directors comprises PETRONAS nominees and independent directors, providing institutional oversight.

Shariah Compliance

PGB is Shariah-compliant as certified by the Securities Commission Malaysia's Shariah Advisory Council, making it suitable for Muslim investors and Shariah-mandated institutional funds.
