Company Profile

WTW: The Cheapest Broker in a Premium Big-4 Club

Willis Towers Watson Public Limited Co (NASDAQ: WTW) is one of the four largest global insurance broking and consulting firms - the 'big-4' - alongside Aon (AON), Marsh McLennan (MMC) and Arthur J. Gallagher (AJG). After the proposed Aon merger fell apart in 2021 (blocked on antitrust grounds), WTW spent several years as the group's laggard. Under CEO Carl Hess, the company is now actively closing that gap.

Business Structure

WTW runs two main segments: Risk & Broking (R&B) - corporate, specialty and reinsurance broking, which generated $1.16 billion of revenue in Q2 2026 (+7% organic); and Health, Wealth & Career (HWC) - employee benefits, retirement and compensation consulting, which generated $1.27 billion (+4% organic).

Strategic Developments 2024-2026

  • TRANZACT divested (end of 2024) - the loss-making direct-to-consumer Medicare business was sold to GTCR/Recognize, cleaning up year-over-year comparisons and structurally improving free cash flow conversion.
  • Newfront acquisition (closed 27 Jan 2026) - $1.3 billion for a tech-forward US broker focused on tech, fintech and life sciences clients, built around its own agentic AI platform.
  • Willis Re / Bain Capital JV - WTW is re-entering the treaty reinsurance market (after selling the old Willis Re to Gallagher in 2021) via a minority-stake joint venture with Bain Capital.
  • 'Propel' plan - a new AI transformation program unveiled alongside Q2 2026 results: roughly $650 million of charges through 2028, targeting ~$400 million of run-rate savings (~$350 million net of reinvestment), aiming for a ~30% adjusted operating margin by 2028 (versus 19.5% this quarter).

An important note for Muslim investors: WTW is NOT Shariah-compliant. The company's core business depends entirely on conventional insurance and reinsurance broking plus benefits consulting closely tied to insurance products - making it unsuitable for Shariah-compliant portfolios.
